Kalbame Lietuviškai!
About us
“Kalbame Lietuviškai!” is a group where we can celebrate and maintain our native language.
Monthly meetings provide opportunities for families to enjoy activities and socialise with other parents and children in an informal setting, potentially even making new friends along the way.
Stay and Play Session
Research shows that children learn languages from their environment. Living in England, even very young children quickly pick up English words. Unfortunately, not all of them get the same exposure to Lithuanian at home. By gathering parents and children together to speak Lithuanian, children gain a wonderful opportunity not only to hear the language being used but also to try out new words they’ve learned in a friendly, supportive setting with peers of different ages.
Story Session
These gatherings are a great chance for parents to meet other Lithuanian-speaking families and for children to find friends who also hear and speak Lithuanian at home. This helps them understand that they are not the only ones speaking the language and that they can communicate in Lithuanian with more than just their parents.
The group also has its own communication channels, where parents can give away or sell outgrown children’s items or simply connect and share experiences with others.
Additionally, the group supports integrating Lithuanians into the local community, helping reduce isolation and fostering connections. By creating spaces for both children and parents to maintain their Lithuanian roots while being part of British culture, the group strengthens ties within the community and provides a sense of belonging.
